WTUL 91.5 FM and Uncle Chris Present:

The mix of music I play spans most anything you might think of. And all of it is music for kids. We spin rock, pop, punk, jazz, bluegrass, country, blues, and anything else you can think of. Most of the music on my show is done by independent artists, though you will hear a familiar voice every now and then and wonder "is that who I think it is?"

The answer is usually "yes". You might hear They Might Be Giants, Deborah Harry (yes, Blondie), Dan Zanes, The Lemonheads, with maybe some old Johnny Cash thrown into the mix. You might even hear something familiar. One of the most often questions I answer is "this is music for kids?". Absolutely. Children understand more than we give them credit for, and moreover they like much of the same music you and I listen to. There will always be a place for the traditional songs (think Wheels on the Bus), but even these memories of the past get some updating done on The Kids Show.

I like to tell a story that some of you may relate to. Often I spend time at music stores or bookstores looking at kids music and what kids are looking for. I watched a young lady of about 5 or so trying to convince mom and dad that she wanted a Beach Boys CD. Mom and dad were kind enough to listen to her but in the end convinced her that she would enjoy a good Children's songs CD much more. I often wonder if my listeners understand that The Beach Boys can be music for kids. If you find yourself in the same situation stop and think. What would YOU have wanted to listen to when you were 5?
